Toys are used like words by children and play is their language.” - Landreth

Helping children reconnect, express and thrive again.

It can be a worrying time if your child seems unhappy or is behaving in ways that are hard to understand or help with.

At some point most children face challenges or difficulties which they will need to work through in order to feel happy, confident and thrive. Often these issues can be resolved at home or school, but sometimes help from a trained therapist is what is needed to make sense of difficult feelings or things that have happened that are holding them back.

What is Play Therapy?

Play therapy is an evidence based mental health support for children aged 4–13.
It helps children who may be struggling with social, emotional, or behavioural difficulties.
Children often find it difficult to express their feelings and experiences in words. Play therapy provides a safe, confidential space where children can communicate and explore their feelings through play and creative activities, supported by a trained therapist.

Grounding through sensory play

Many children first need help feeling calm and safe. Using sensory materials such as sand, clay, water, or textured objects, children can release tension and regulate their nervous system. This gentle, hands-on play helps children settle their bodies and feel ready to explore their feelings and environment.

Symbolic expression in play

Children often communicate their experiences through play rather than words. Using items such as mini figures, animals, and objects in the sand tray, children can create scenes that represent their inner world. This allows them to express thoughts and feelings safely, even when they cannot talk about them directly.

Finding their voice through play

Through puppets, role play, instruments and storytelling, children can explore different roles and express their feelings free of judgement and shame. This helps children develop confidence, practise making choices, and discover their own authentic voice.

By mastering challenges through play, children develop the resilience and self-confidence needed to navigate their daily lives more easily.
